If you’re looking for a fun-filled, family day out with entertainment for everyone, then look no further than the popular Braemar Day celebrations in Blairgowrie.

The annual gala event first took place some 70 years ago and is now something of an east Perthshire tradition - and a firm favourite in the calendar.

Organised by the Blairgowrie and Rattray Braemar Association, the much-loved extravaganza is held on the first Saturday in September.

The packed programme includes crowd-pleasing attractions such as an opening procession featuring local groups and organisations, a massed pipe band parade, bouncy castles and face-painting, performances from local dancers, singers and bands, and a spectacular fireworks display.

There is also a market with stalls from local crafters and producers, as well as fundraising stalls run by a number of local community groups, clubs and organisations, and food vendors.

Run by volunteers and funded entirely by public donations and the generosity of local businesses and organisations, Braemar Day has a real community feel to it, attracting hundreds of people – local residents and visitors to the town - every year.

Generations of families having been coming to the event for decades, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Blairgowrie and Rattray Braemar Association volunteer Hayley Nicoll has been coming to the event all her life.

She said: “One of the things I enjoy most about Braemar Day is seeing everyone smiling and having fun, and the lovely comments that everyone makes.

“Braemar Day wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the local community and local businesses, and we really appreciate all that they do.

“It’s always a great day and one that everyone involved is proud to be part of – so if you haven’t already been, come along this year and see for yourself!”
